Sanctuary Buildings

Collins Construction has been established since 1956 with their core business providing refurbishment and fit out services to owners and occupiers. Not only does Collins Construction undertake projects within the  commercial sector but also projects within industry, education, healthcare, leisure and retail sectors.

Situated in Great Smith Street, London, the front and side elevations of Sanctuary Buildings presented a multitude of horizontal ledges that offered ideal perching, roosting and nesting locations for a potential feral pigeon infestation. At the time of our initial inspection and survey it was explained that pigeon proofing measures had previously been installed to a selected number of the ledges on the front and side elevations.

“Safeguard’s professionalism and experience fulfilled all of our requirements during this challenging project, their flexibility in providing quality service, often at short notice, was invaluable to the site team. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”

The Solution

During our inspection we noticed that the previous proofing measures had either been damaged or completely removed during the external refurbishment of these elevations, presenting us with a clear canvas for recommendations.

Our senior surveyor recommended that all of the horizontal ledges, from the ground floor level ceiling to the leading edge of the roof, on both the front and side elevations, be proofed with spring wire system.

These ledges included all window sills, cornices, string courses, pediments, pilasters and any further ledges that would offer an ideal perching, roosting or nesting area for feral pigeons. To install these proofing measures it took approximately three months with the end result being a professionally installed spring wire system that is not only subtle in design, but also practical for the purpose presented.
